Busy Tuesday!

Emily is out of school this week for Christmas break and part of me wondered how I would spend my time with TWO kids at home. So far it hasn't been a problem. . . . if anything we have been overbooked!

Today was particularly busy. This morning we got to go on a test tour of the George Washington House. Did anyone know George Washington had visited Barbados? I didn't. But he did indeed visit here when he was 19 in 1751. In fact it was the only foreign country he ever visited during his lifetime. I pointed out later to Tyler technically this is incorrect to claim since at the time of his visit both the US and Barbados were under British colonial rule. . . . Technicality though. They have spent years working to restore this house and did an awesome job. The paint is authentic, the furniture authentic. Very cool. They even claim to have saved George Washington for the Presidency for us. While here he contracted smallpox, but thanks to the diligence of a British doctor he survived and later when smallpox devastated the army, Washington was immune. Anyway we enjoyed it, even the kids. This is a must see for anyone who visits!

So that alone would have been a busy enough day. But it wasn't over yet. In the evening Emily's preschool was asked to perform their Nativity play at St. George Parish Church for their annual toy service. We had never seen a toy service before, so it was kind of cool. They do an entire service for children where they collect a huge number of toys for those that are less fortunate. Emily was an angel again and was beautiful! In fact, she even did better performing here than she did at school, which is ironic since this was in front of way of more people. After Emily there was a ballet performance, lots of songs, and a children's candlelight procession to Silent Night. It was really beautiful.

After the day was over and everyone was exhausted we loaded the kids up and stopped at Cheffettes for dinner (local version of McDonald's). The kids played on the playground and we capped the night with a rainbow ice cream cone. It got everywhere. But the girls loved it. It tasted like cake batter. Anyway it was a crazy, fun day!
