Boring, But Very Busy Week

So my dad left on Monday and I thought it was going to be a quiet week. Somehow though it is Thursday night already and things have been busy! This week I have finished and filed our taxes, took Hannah jogging, went to playgroup, went grocery shopping, took Emily to her "big girl school" for an intake interview, and did some massive laundry/cleaning. Doesn't sound like a ton, but I'm tired!

Grocery shopping here is agonizingly frustrating. It literally takes an entire morning to accomplish. I drop Emily off at school and finish shopping just in time to race and pick her up. By then both Hannah and I grumpy and tired. A thorough shopping trip (like the kind that allows you to not set foot in the evil stores again for at least a week) involves at least two, and usually three stores. Why three stores? Because stuff can be hard to find here. One day one store will only have whole milk. So you have to go across town to the other store to find low-fat milk. What about skim milk? Doesn't exist here unless you like it out of a box on a shelf or in the powdered form. Our shopping this week was only two stores. We started at the grocery store, stocked up on what we could and then headed over to PriceSmart (like Costco) and bought all the bulk stuff we could. When it was all over I had spent $400 for a normal sized trunk full of food. Ouch. That's what happens when milk is $8 a gallon, turkey meat is $13 a lb and cereal is $7 a box. Islands are awesome to visit, but not so great on savings accounts to live for any length of time.

So today we took Emily to what will be her school in the fall. She got to play on the playground, meet some of her classmates and see her classroom. The school is absolutely beautiful, set on an old plantation with huge gardens and landscaped everything. The classrooms are little houses with hardwood floors and amazing breezes that blow through. I think she will really like it there. It passed Em's test with a playground and painting. What more could a child ask for? They even measured her for a uniform. Two uniforms actually, a plaid jumper and white shirt and then a sports uniform (red shorts and white shirt). She looked so big standing there wearing a uniform. When we got home she promptly told me she was too big for preschool and wanted to start her big girl school instead. Too bad it's only March. . . . . Here is a picture of the main building of her school. Pretty cool, eh?

So life is busy as usual, but everyone is doing great. Hopefully we will have some cooler days to post soon! This weekend looks pretty standard. . . . having a ceiling fan installed, housework, and church. At least it should be mellow. Here is a cute picture of Hannah to tide you over. She found Emily's hula skirt and insisted on proudly wearing it. She is also playing with a ring box. I don't know why we buy toys when she perfers ring boxes, tupperware and empty soda bottles. We think she is pretty cute. Sorry about the red eye, I'm too tired to Photoshop tonight.
