Music Musings

So I've been trying to come up with a Top 10 Songs Ever list for some time now. Frankly, though, I've been too lazy to sit down and dig through my CDs and MP3s to figure it out. So I have only come up with three so far. Here they are in no particular order:

Come Downstairs and Say Hello
Guster

Pounding
The Doves

Tangled Up in Blue
Bob Dylan

By the way, Pounding is also the absolute best running song ever. If anyone runs, I highly recommend you download that song. It's especially good at the end of the run when you need an extra push to make it to the end.

Also, Tangled Up in Blue is, in my opinion, the most poetic song I know. Bob's ability of telling a story in poetry and blending it with music is at absolute tops in this song.

Although I haven't come up with the last seven for my Top 10 Songs Ever list, here are some definite honorable mentions that probably won't make the final list, but deserve to be recognized.

Best Relatively New Song:
The Adventure
Angels and Airwaves
This song just rocks. Nothing else needs to be said. I must thank Seth Bailey for introducing this one.

Best Love Song:
Sick of Myself
Matthew Sweet
I stumbled across Matthew Sweet in high school, but then lost interest some time later. I must thank my Cousin Michael for getting me into his 100% Fun album. This song might not sound like a love song at first, but keep listening.

Best Song that Takes Me Back to High School:
Grey Cell Green
Ned's Atomic Dustbin
I tripped on this song channel surfing one day. Then, I ordered God Fodder when I purchased my first CDs ever through Columbia House. As much as I love this song, it probably won't make the Top 10 Ever, but man, it takes me back to happy memories. By the way, the little known B-side Titch, also by Ned's, almost beat Grey Cell Green out for this category.

Relooking at the list above, I notice I need to thank both my brothers for all three of the Top 10 thus far. Kit introduced both the Doves and Guster to me. Matt introduced me to Dylan. I think it was my little sis, though, that introduced me to the beauty of Tangled Up in Blue specifically.

I'd love to hear what some of your "Best Ever" songs might be. Let me know.

have to agree with you on the pounding song - I have run many miles to that particular ditty.
I didn't really know you were doing a blog - I'll have to favorite it.
