Our sweet little Madeline turned one, and to celebrate we had a small gathering with some of our closest friends, the Cruzs, the Jollys, and Sonia and her daughter Susie. The Cruz's youngest son turned four about a week before Maddie, so we decided to combine efforts and celebrate both children with a joint party. We kept the party simple so it was enjoyable for both the adults and the kids (read no crazy party games, lots of chatting and playing for the kids). We started with a traditional turkey dinner- turkey, cranberry sauce, rolls, sweet potato bake, you know the good stuff! Then we moved on to cake and ice cream and presents.
It was a houseful of children and noise (8 kids age 10 and younger), but everyone had fun, and it felt like the perfect way to celebrate our little daughter's first year of life. The best part was house much fun the children had playing with all their friends.
Hannah couldn't wait any more- she had to dive into her favorite "mashed go-tatos"
Birthday girl enjoying some of her favorites: turkey and strawberries.
Birthday boy Jakey. AKA Hannah's best little buddy. Hannah and Jake are in Nursery class together and pretty much joined at the hip. They start to miss each other when a few days pass between play dates.
Girls enjoying dinner. McKenna and Macyn (the two blonde girls, other than Hannah) are the daughters of Emily's Kindergarten teacher and the school principal. Susie spent the entire evening in dress up clothing. Good times were had by all.
The cakes. Madeline had her own cake- chocolate with buttercream. Each of the girls have had their own small round cake on their big day. The big cake was for Jake, and for the sharing enjoyment of everyone else- one layer of chocolate, one of yellow cake with choclate buttercream filling and vanilla buttercream on the outside. The little figures are from a Korean cartoon that is quite popular here. It's called Pororo, and is quite cute. Madeline loves the penguin star of the show.
The whole gaggle of kids.
Happy Birthday, Jake!
Madeline bee-lined for the Pororo figure. She grabbed him before the candle was even blown out.
She started off a bit tentative, but quickly figured out how tasty it was. After a few bites she seemed more interested in eating Pororo.
Back to the cake.
Happy Smurf baby, smiling here at Scott Jolly who she seems quite fond of.
Compulsory post-cake bath. Note: Pororo still clutched in her hand.
Enjoying a few of her new toys.
Checking out her new Raggedy Anne doll, thanks Nana!
A new ride on pony, from Mama Bear and Papa Bear. She was a little unsure about this at first. The older children LOVE it. Hannah has named it Pinto after a horse on Dora. She rides it around the house yelling, "come on Pinto!"
The birthday girl with her mama. It's pretty hard to believe one year ago she was a tiny newborn. We cannot imagine life without this sweet, sweet baby.

Happy Birthday Madeline!!!
I love how cute babies look fresh and clean out of the bath.
What a fun birthday celebration! I can't believe how big she has grown and that she is already one.
So fun! I love that she took Pororo with her to the bath!
