Living overseas and working at the Embassy has given the Fourth of July an entirely different spin. Usually this means a huge, very official, formal work party. It is the one time of the year that the Embassy goes all out -- tons of food, entertainment, a huge party to celebrate our country. Lots of mingling, networking, and working.
This year being so far from the Embassy, this monumental party planning task fell into Tyler and his local staff's laps. They literally spent months coordinating this huge party. Fundraising (no tax payer money is used; money is solicited from the American Business community), finding a location, catering, entertainment, decorating. It was a huge, time occupying, massive task. And they did a fantastic job. . . . it was a huge success. Over 200 people attended, and everyone seemed to have a great time.
Ice Sculpture.
The spread.
The drinks.
The flower arrangements were unreal.
The cake. They added an "s" to Year before the party began.
The bomb sniffing dogs making a pass through just before the start.
Guest of honor, and picture spot.
The US Navy Commander, Chris Cruz and his staff Ms. Chang and Ms. Kang.
May the eating begin!
Presentation of the colors.
US and Korean National Anthems were sung.
Toasting.
Tyler and some of his VIPS.
The cake cutting.
Tyler, Chris, and Jungwhan (one of Tyler's local staff).
Posing with the color guard enlisted from the Jinhae US Naval Base.
Awesome jazz band.
