Everyone at Emily's school had the chance to participate in the school science fair. It was perfectly tiered according to the kids ages and abilities, from reports on animals in the lower grades all the way to rather sophisticated science experiments on the junior and high school level.
Emily's first grade class each had to prepare a report on an animal of their choosing. Emily chose the chameleon. Her teacher helped them all do research on the internet, printing off packets of information for each child. Emily took the information and filled out a series of worksheets, complete with her own drawings, about her animal. She then had to create a way to present her animal in it's habitat. She, and most of her class, chose to create a diorama.
Emily is pretty creative, and it was fun to watch her think through her diorama, figuring out what she wanted to present, and how she wanted to arrange it. She required some help with cutting paper, and with the hot glue gun. Tyler assisted her a bit with the finishing touches of her chameleon figures, but honestly this was a creation entirely of her own. We were really proud of the effort she put into it. . . and as a result she is quite the expert on chameleons!
The day of the science fair the students walked around learning about everyone else's projects, and the parents were invited to come and see what the kids had created. It was fun to see the variety of projects these kids created!
