Gymnastics

Wednesday Emily went back to gymnastics for the first time since the holiday break. Last term she had an irrational fear of one of her teachers and would freak out if he got near her. Finally I asked what the problem was and she told me she was scared of his Halloween wig. This particular teacher had a very large fro. Thankfully by the end of the term she would proudly tell me she had even let the wig teacher help her. It was quite comical.

Today when Emily's class moved from the balance beam to the uneven bars, she wouldn't let Darius help again. I went over and told her to be nice and go let Darius help her. She looked at me incredulously and said, "That's not Darius." Despite losing the fro and having braids now, it very much was still Darius. I looked and at her and said, "Of course it is." She looked shocked as she looked at him and said, "But where is his clown hair?" Thankfully this man works with small children, so found it humorous and not rude. He laughed and told her he had braided his hair instead and then proceeded to let her touch a braid. She nodded and said approvingly, "Oh it looks much better." And then off to bars she went.

I must admit I was both embarrassed and amused. What a kid! She had a great day at class, and it getting quite impressive on her own on the balance beam.
