Merry Christmas, everyone!!!
Although the lack of cold and snow gets to Jennifer sometimes, Barbados is actually a pretty fun place to be for Christmas. The people here really enjoy celebrating. There is a festive spirit everywhere. People decorate houses and go to all sorts of church services and Christmas music is everywhere. In fact, the majority of the radio stations have solely played Christmas music. This was really fun for a while until the best of these stations started playing more commercials than music. Christmas was instantly commercialized. On the way to work this morning, there was a long commercial break, followed by one song, followed by another long commerical break. That's okay, because to remedy the situation, I popped the Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack into the CD player, and I was good to go the rest of the way to work.
On Wednesday, Jennifer made some ginger bread slabs so that Emily could do her first ginger bread house. It was a great success! Jen did a great job making the house, and Emily and I had great fun decorating.
Although Christmas tunes have been the predominant form of music in the car lately (Jen is really partial to our Steel Drum Christmas disc -- Christmas songs done with a funky Caribbean beat), every now and again, it's time to go secular again. During that time, Guster's newest album Ganging Up on the Son hit the spot just fine. The best two songs on this: "The Captain" and "Hang On."
