We spent a few hours Friday at the beach and then in the evening headed over to Oistens for the Fish Fry (a very deceptive name since nothing there is fried, just grilled). If anyone ever visits Barbados the Fish Fry at Oistins is an absolute must. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is totally fun. Everyone loved it.
On Saturday we all had the chance to tour the United States Coast Guard Cutter Dallas. It is a neat opportunity if you ever have a chance to tour any these large military type boats. While we were in East Timor we toured the USS Essex and that was awesome. It later helped with the tsunami relief efforts in South East Asia. Pretty cool. Anyway the Dallas is a smaller cutter used by the coast guard on rescue and drug missions. It was commissioned in 1967 and since has been used for things like stopping drug smuggling, and working with Cuban and Haitian refugees. The boat had some huge guns (I wouldn't mess with them. . . .) and even a helicopter that they use for rescues, etc. It was pretty cool to tour it. We even got to meet the ship's captain who was very nice. He even carried Ruthie down a flight of stairs, she must have a way with the men in uniform!
Later that evening after some good napping we went to Foul Bay to take some family pictures. Why you name a bay that is breathtaking foul is beyond me. . . . ironically it is just down from Bottom's Bay. As we pulled up we saw a very sheepish naked man make a mad dash for his car as all of his buddies taunted him. I guess they weren't expecting company! Anyway we got some super cute family shots.
So a few days down, several more to go! We look forward to a catamaran ride, some beach days, the Flower Animal Cave, and the George Washington House. It should be a fun week!
