Emily had her official first day of "big girl school" on Tuesday. She moved this term from her preschool to an international school on the island. Formal schooling here follows an antiquated British system and hence the kiddos start at age 4. It is basically like pre-K, though I think in terms of curriculum it is more on par with Kindergarten. So far she loves it! After the opening assembly she had me walk her to her classroom and without hesitation put her stuff down and went to play. There are only eight kids in her class and the teacher in fantastic. I think it is going to be a great year for her! She comes home everyday with tales of attending church (it is informally tied to the Anglican church as are most schools here), doing PE, playing on the playground and practicing writing. Her favorite song so far, "All Things Bright and Beautiful."
The only part she doesn't like so far is the morning bus ride. She cries when we put her on the bus in the morning, though the driver assures me she stops after about a mile and is delightful. I'm sure given a few more days, even that will go smoothly. In the afternoon she takes a bus home right to the house. It is really a phenomenal set-up for us.
I still can't believe she is old enough to ride off on the bus to school wearing her sharp little uniform. Where did little Emily go?!

Emily NEVER naps anymore. This is what greeted me when I pulled into the driveway after picking her up her first day.

I love how something new can wear them out. S's first swim lesson this summer ended with her falling asleep during the 10 min. ride home.
What a good Emily! I can't even imagine how I would feel when the day I send Alec off on the school bus comes. (Sob!)
how fun and exciting! How cool that now you know the magical way to get a 4 year old to nap. Though, that begs the question...what time did she go to sleep that night?
These naps are rare, though she has taken a few on the bus on the way home from school lately. The good news is they are only 20 minutes or so and she is so exhausted from school she is in bed by 7 every night! I love it!
