At the very top of one of the most popular department stores in Busan, lies this quiet oasis. 10 stories above the hustle and bustle of the city, this little known park serves as a peaceful, fun way to spend the morning. Normally trips to the Eco Park follow a plan, a very specific plan. First is the stop in the basement of the neighboring Shinsegae Department Store (which by the way was just classified by Guinness Book of World Records as the worlds largest). Here we meet our friends, and pick up fresh bagels and cream cheese from Au-Bon Pain. Usually the kids are so cute they get a free breadstick or two. Then we take the elevator to the top of the Lotte Department Store. My friend Carol and I sit back and relax and the kids run, and play, and eat, and the spend the morning enjoying the sunshine. Really, it's a pretty perfect way to spend the morning.
The park itself isn't huge. There is a small manmade pond, luscious rainforest looking foliage, and occasionally even a frog or two. There are bridges to run across, a stage to dance on, and huge musical instruments made out of natural elements. The hit of the park, as far as my girls are concerned, is the large oversized playhouse in the middle. It has been the site of many, many a creative game, including American Girls, ballet class, playing house, and even superheroes. There is often a light breeze, making it the perfect site for bubble blowing.
The girls love our trips to the Eco Park, and I love my chance to catch up with a good friend. A perfect way to spend a lazy summer day, at least until monsoon seasons hits us here!
